Scientists have determined that there are about 300 million stars in our own Milky Way galaxy. Of that, we can see maybe 4500 on a clear night. And out of that number one particular star had great significance to a group of astronomers east of the village of Bethlehem.  They determined in foretold of the birth of a King and set out to follow that star in order to worship at the feet of the baby. Tradition says that they followed that guiding light for two years before reaching the baby King that they sought.

In Psalm 19, David sings that, “The Heavens are telling of the glory of God; and the expanse [of heaven] is declaring the work of His hands” (Psalm 19:1, Amplified Reading Bible). With all of the starry firmament reflecting and ‘singing’ to us of God’s glory is it any wonder that the astronomers were truly called wise men for following the one star giving the message that God was coming to earth to be born as a baby; kingly and divine by nature, but unbelievable humble in attitude.

What star are you following this Christmas season? Are you mesmerized by glitter and tinsel and purchases? Or are your eyes firmly fixed on the star that stands over the manger where the Infant King and Prince of Peace is waiting? Take this time to evaluate the distractions that might be hindering your own journey and worship as you follow not the star, but the Lord it announced.

Behold That Star

Behold that star! Behold that star up yonder!

Behold that star! It is the star of Bethlehem.

There was no room found in the inn. This is the star of Bethlehem.

For Him who was born free from sin. This is the star! Behold that star op yonder!

The wise men came on from the East, Led by the star of Bethlehem.

To worship Him, the Prince of Peace. Beneath the star of Bethlehem.
